Nerdiness Survey/Interview

Perhaps inspired by the anime conventions starting up again, or just nerdiness in general, I have decided to dig out an old nerd survey I created awhile back. It is certainly a less intimidating read than the prior post, and you can all see what a total nerd I really am :) Read on and I leave posterity to you, my fellow nerds and geeks.

btw, for fairness' sake, I shall complete the survey as well... and while it seems like a lot of questions, most of the answers are pretty easy, and of course, subjective, but that is the fun of this :)

1.First Name?

2.Age you would prefer to be?

3.Immortality?

4.What is your quest?

5.Nerd or Geek?

6.Single, Pre-Owned, or Attached?

7.History or Geography?

8.Favorite Sport?

9.Favorite Pro Sports Team?

10.Do you understand the infield fly rule?

11.Do you understand Cricket?(the default answer should be 'no', even if you are from the UK or former British colonial holding)

12.Fusion or Fission?

13.Do you own a lightsaber (real or otherwise)?

14.What is your favorite color?

15.What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

16.Star Trek, Babylon 5, or Battlestar Galactica?

17.Phaser or Blaster?

18.Superman or Batman?

19.Spiderman or Wolverine?

20. Harry Potter or JRR Tolkien (or alternatively, CS Lewis)?

21.Robert Frost or Edgar Allen Poe?

22.Weather aside, do you feel more day baseball games should be played?

23.Who fought each other in the Hundred Years War?

24.How many digital media devices do you own? (ie, ipods, computers, cellphones, video game systems)

25.360, PS3, or the worst name for a video game system ever(Wii)?

26.What is the longest amount of time you waited in line for a movie?

27. And finally, if you had a teleportation device that would send you into any of the alternate universe described above, where would you go?

C.

Some great answers so far and always intriguing to see some of the random answers to random questions :)

btw, England and France is the correct answer to the Hundred Years War (the Hugeonots helped precipitate the Wars of Religion and Prussia was involved in the Thirty Years and Seven Years War :)

So it appears, so far, I am the only one crazy enough (or with enough time on my hands) to camp out for a day waiting for a movie...

Daaamn, I just remembered that there was a hundred year war in our history. Is that what you were referring to? it didn't actually last a hundred years did it? Wasn't there a similarly named war in bab 5? or am I just going senile? We didn't study much western hisory in malaysian schools and my main interest in ancient history so my knowledge of anything that happened in the western world since the coming of Christ or so up till current times is kinda sketchy. Other than the really big stuff; like the world wars, American independence, industrial revolution, etc, of course.

jedimerc said...

Again, more great and amusing answers and I will respond more directly to all these when I get back in this afternoon, except for one:

MB, you are correct with the Hundred Years War... France as a political entity was not the France we know now, though her allies in the struggle were sometimes the regions that would become parts of France, though Burgundy (the modern low countries, Luxembourg, parts of Alscace-Lorraine and parts of Eastern and Southern france north of Lyon) switched sides a couple of times, finally siding with France to more or less end English support on the continent. And of course, it was more a series of wars that lasted 116 years, though the root conflicts really began in the 1200's and not 1337, the accepted date of the opening of hostilities... ok, if I say anymore about this, I am sure we will have people going into shocked or stunned stupor :)

Promise I will get back later with more pithy responses :)

jedimerc said...

ok, since I am such a nerdy person, some more detailed responses to y'all's kind comments:

sayre: I sensed a Star Trek theme here... why, oh why could they have not stuck with the original name and called the Wii the Revolution... much cooler.

lyndon: I have heard of the subspecies 'Neek'... they are most welcome... Oh, have you heard of the MMORPG coming out soon to be set in the LOTR universe... most excellent.

sephyroth: Thanks for dropping by and I agree that Gran Turismo would be awesome once it comes out on the PS3, and traveling the world is one of my secondary quests.

phil: those poor unladen swallows, blasted to bits by the shotgun :) and good idea making someone wait in line in your place, though hanging out in line with fellow nerds can be cool sometimes.

jedimerc: what kind of supernerd waits in line for hours on end to watch sci fi movie, and why do you answer your own comments?

rav'n: Yay, Babylon 5 fans unite :) The infield fly is a baseball term... basically with less than 2 outs and a runner on base if you pop up a ball in the infield the batter is out to proven unsportsmanlike conduct from the fielders... I wouldn't mind jumping from one place to another either.

m:Yay, Quantum Leap... very cool show. See above on my description of the infield fly :) I'm not sure how to respond to your response to number #15... whoa.

mistress: no worries... come back anytime as always :)

jac: Thanks for dropping by and feel free to revel as much as you want here. This is a nerd-safe blog :)

madameboffin: Sweet, a fake Bat'leth. That can count :) On the unladen swallow thing... think the Gorge of Eternal Peril in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Wii... sooo wrong in sooo many ways :)

jedimerc: are you still here? find something else to write about :)

egan said...

How is Wii worse than 360? I mean really, what the hell is 360 about? Wow, look the camera rotates all the way around the character in the game. Sorry Microsoft, that's not new.

Anyways, great questions Master Chris. Vive la France!

Anonymous said...

I adore Star Wars, but Star Trek was my first love (the original). And I chose a phaser because if I have to carry a weapon, I don't want anyone to know it until it's too late. Blasters are harder to hide...

But I really want to be a Jedi.

jedimerc said...

egan: I have enjoyed the 360 and have nothing against the Wii (though it is graphically inferior to the PS3 and 360), I just can't get over the name... it should have stayed the Revolution. I know the name played better in Japan, but, man... Wii? Just amused :)

sayre: *sigh* me too... and I can see the concealability aspect of the phaser (though the PPG from B5 is more concealable, just does not have the stopping power of a phaser, but what does? :)

Anonymous said...

I guess I may be more of a berd (book nerd) than a true nerd. I don't mind a computer game on a rainy day but only if I'm out of books.

Anonymous said...

Chris have you ever thought about lecturing? You'd be a great liberal arts professor.

jedimerc said...

phil: I can be a bit of a bibliophile myself... it sort of depends on what I am reading. I am more apt to break away to read RPG material. Most novels and such I read for a couple of hours before I go to bed... helps me sleep.

Aside from writing, lecturing is one of the things I would like to do... just missing an all important Ph.D :)

becky: Yeah, I suppose it is fair :) On day baseball games, how did they fill up the stands before night games? I guess a lot of work hooky, hehe. I think if I had not grown up such a Cowboys fan I would be a bigger baseball fan, though to me, there is rarely anything better than wasting a lazy spring or early summer evening relaxing at the ole' Ballpark.

As for alternate universes, I mean like the Star Wars, Star Trek, BSG, Babylon 5, Tolkien, Warcraft universe... fictional universes mostly :) [though an alternate Roman universe would be cool]

I'll take a holodeck too if alternate realities don't work out. My definition of those realities would be any of the cool scifi or fantasy universes like Star Trek, Star Wars, B5, BSG, Farscape, LOTR, Harry Potter, etc :)
